In Windows, you can click (without releasing the mouse button) to the X
to bring focus to it, and then press spacebar to try to close the tab.
The X button has the clicking animation, but does not close the tab.

Yes, we should open an upstream bug, as this issue also occurs in
Windows (and maybe Mac OS X).
