Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but no --safe-mode nor new
profile changes this.

I am now using the following version
gnomefreak at Development:~$ policy thunderbird
thunderbird:

  Candidate: 3.1.8~hg20110106r5920+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~umd1
