I am experiencing the same bug in Kubuntu 10.10 (regression from 10.04).
Since it might depend on the video driver, let me add that I am using a
Lenovo X200 Tablet with intel graphics.  lspci reports

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series
Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA
controller])

Also, while firefox is the application that most readily exhibits the
bug, I have noticed similar glitches in a few other applications (e.g.
kile) since upgrading to 10.10.
