It is NOT confined to times when googlemaps is open.

There seems to be some other weird behaviour going on where tabs also
OPEN when there not supposed to. I'm not yet sure under what
circumstances it's happening, but it's almost like clicking on something
/ going back / forward / or some other action is doing an inadvertent
'Open Link in a New Tab' and creating extra tabs when you don't want
them. I'll report more if I get more of an idea what's happening..
