Solved by removing the old  ubuntuzilla and thunderbird-mozilla-build
using Synaptic.

The packages were listed as "Installed", but showed 0 MB as size.
Probably the result of the previous removal of Thunderbird mozilla build
using the automated mozilla script "ubuntuzilla".
