Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu.  Please note that Intrepid (8.10) reached End of Life at the end of April 2010.  Please upgrade to a supported version of Ubuntu: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases
Firefox should use whatever the default mail client is for the desktop.  Please reopen this bug if this is still occurring with a supported release.
