I can confirm same issue as well:

Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 7800GS
Xorg: X.Org X Server 1.6.4
Release Date: 2009-9-27

Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.24-23-server i686 Ubuntu

If anyone can give a fix to this that would be great, I'm going to keep
digging and I tried to revert my X11 config file thinking that Nvidia
manager messed something up.  It also was NOT happening on Ubuntu 9.04.
It's only when I moved to Ubuntu 9.10 is when the issue started.
