Actually, Thunderbird 3.0 does not really work-it just gets a bit
further.
I can create a profile on the local hard disk and everything works. But
when I copy it to the NAS and redirect the profile, Thunderbird 3.0
starts, but claims not to have the password when I retrieve emails.
Probably an access-rights related issue. I use a ReadyNAS NV+ with the
latest firmware RAIDiator 4.1.6 [1.00a043], and here is my fstab entry
for the share:
//192.168.0.4/data /mnt/NAS/data/ cifs
uid=1000,umask=000,noperm,noauto,nogroup,rw,credentials=/root/credentials/NAS/data,iocharset=utf8
0 0
I have used this technique successfully in the past, so I know it works.
This is probably an issue with the new Samba, the NAS (which runs
Linux), and Thunderbird.
Guys, if I can't get this to work soon, I may give Evolution a try. The
only reason I used Thunderbird was that I dual-booted and wanted to
access my profile from Windows and Ubuntu (which worked), but now that I
don't use or need Windows anymore, that reason is pretty much obsolete.
