I received the following message form Codeweavers, who created the
software Crossover:

"Actually, allowing Ubuntu to use the Windows plugins is a feature, something we put in.  But, sometimes it does cause problems (as you've described below). You can disable the plugin CrossOver offers.
Go to Applications, CrossOver, Configuration
Choose 'Manage Bottles'
Highlight the bottle in question
Click 'Configure'
Choose 'Plugins' and uncheck the plugin that is giving you trouble"
