I'll give it a try.  Right now I am working on deleting the 2 Ubuntu partitions that were made on the WinXP machine when I reinstalled 9.04. On a 3rd install I don't want a 3rd 2 Gb partion on a 40 Gb drive. I'm letting XP install service pack 3 (this has taken a lot longer than I anticipated) and I'm actually working on my real day job. I may be able to get some screen shots before the end of the day. (15:52 in Houston right now).  Thanks for the interest in the problem.

Hey don't suppose you could attatch a few screenshots?

i.e. One when firefox is only in taskbar, and one when it is closed.

And it would be really great if you could switch seconds on temporarily
for the screenies in your top-panel clock.  (Providing you have one).
You can do this by clicking on the time/date> Edit> General> Show
seconds.

This would give an idea of timescale :).

Status in “firefox” source package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
Binary package hint: firefox

Used live cd version of desktop Ubuntu 9.04.  Firefox loads and runs. 
Can browse web.  Installed 9.04 from live CD alongside WinXP Pro.
(Previously had 8.04 installed with WinXP on this notebook).  Attempting
to run firefox results in 'hour glass' (Ubunut rotating wheel) and
minimized Firefox program icon on bottom status line.  But after about
10 seconds, the icon is gone and firefox has not loaded. Reinstalled
9.04 and had the same results.

Whatever is on the live CD version can open and run Firefox.  What got installed onto the disk does not.
Hardware: HP/compaq nc6000, 1.4 Ghz Pentium with 512 Mb Ram. 40 Gb hard disk
