try mozplugger, evince, 
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu intrepid partner
has acroread This is not a firefox bug since firefox is not equiped to open PDF's on its own.
The above deb line should be in your 
/etc/apt/sources.list file just enable it and update than install
