Update:

So. gnome-terminal is already fixed and available in my PPA:

I will land a bunch of more fixes including thunderbird tomorrow or
monday there. So add my PPA apt lines and upgrade two times a day and
see how things become better for you. Thanks for testing and providing
feedback.
