No... Im saying after each Firefox upgrade, I get a 404 error message at
mozilla.com webpage because Firefox changed startup page to a hardcoded
url that does not work, independent of my prev startup page settings.

Try to browse to

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/3.0.11/whatsnew/

thats the page I get as 404 error message.
