I can confirm this kind of buggy behavior for Ubuntu Jauntry and
Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 as well.

To verify this issue is not related to extensions, I disabled all I had
(only two: German language pack and Lightning) and restarted
Thunderbird. However, the problem persisted.

What's strange is that while my machine at work suffers from this bug,
my laptop installation at home does not although both run Jaunty.

Let me know if I can be of any help to fix the problem by means of
providing further details, debug output, or similar.
