Thank you for the response. There was an upgrade to Thunderbird,  2.0.0.19,  that solved the problem. I no longer use 2.0.0.12.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please answer these questions:
1. Is this reproducible?
2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as
detailed as possible.
This will help us to find and resolve the problem. On 8.10 using Thunderbird
2.0.0.19, it's possible to select a text size for composing mails.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: thunderbird

Can't change text size on Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 using Thunderbird
preferences. This has worked on other Thunderbird releases. The text is so small
I can hardly read it. Just upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS.
I am a user not a programmer so bear with me if you will.
Thanks,
Richard
