I'm new to all of this but maybe my input can help. I have Ubuntu 8.04
and firefox 3.0 fully updated as of today. I am having the same issue,
flash does not work on sites such as you tube and sites with flash
intros, however most flash advertisements do work. I have tried using
the proprietary flash 10 from both Adobe's website and the Ubuntu
add/remove program list. I have also tried using the Macromedia Flash
plugin, Flash player 9,  in Ubuntu's add/remove list. I only used one
plugin at a time and restarted the computer after each plugin change. I
hope this helps.
