So...almost immediately after I entered this, I realized that this
particular problem wasn't occurring in my other profiles. Comparing the
profiles revealed that some of the addons in the profile in question
were not up to-date.

In particular, updating All-in-One Siderbar 0.7.4->0.7.8 fixed the
problem with the Bookmarks Toolbar, its contents reappeared.

However, now all the toolbar icons disappeared. This looks like what is
described in <a href="https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281348">Bug
#281348</a>. I will designate this bug as it duplicate.
