Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I observed this problem more frequently before my video driver was
updated a month or two ago. It has only happened twice since the
update. I don't recall the circumstances of the previous incidence
other than that I clicked something in firefox and the screen went dark.
I checked the log files, but didn't find anything relevant. This time I
was reading a Newegg.com ad

     http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemail/Dec-0-2009/HolidaySale15
/index-landing.html?nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL121509&cm_mmc=EMC-

Then I right clicked on an image of "LG W2286L Black 22" 2ms HDMI" and
clicked to open in a new tab. The entire screen went dark and I
couldn't tell whether the system was responding to the keyboard or not.
I had to reboot.

The URL for the LG monitor is
