Thank you for reporting this Ubuntu.  Could you please give us an strace showing this problem?  Please start Firefox 3.5 with the following command:
strace -eopen firefox-3.5 2>&1 | tee /tmp/strace_ff35.log

Please attach /tmp/strace_ff35.log after you reproduce the problem.
