sorry, davide. I only marked the bug you reported as the duplicate
because it was filed after this one.

I haven't been able to find this bug on the debian bug tracker, but I
don't know anything about the differences between the update process for
firefox in debian and ubuntu. if manually downloading firefox and
updating through firefox doesn't yield the same behavior, then it seems
to be an issue with the way ubuntu updates firefox.
