The day before yesterday, I happened to see one of Cambridge
University's mail administrators bemoaning the way most mail clients
remove headers, because it makes it harder for system administrators to
diagnose mail problems. That's precisely the opposite of your complaint!

The administrator in question suggested that mail clients should attach
the original message as a message/rfc822. That might be a good
compromise here, since properly-implemented mail clients wouldn't need
to show you all the original headers and could just show the original
message the way they do any other e-mail.
