Sequence is as follows:

using: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1)
Gecko/2008072820 Firefox/3.0.1

Using tabbed Firefox browser

with tabs at the following URL's:

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.scuba/topics?hl=en&lnk
http://news.google.com
http://www.drudgereport.com/
http://news.google.com/nwshp?hl=en&tab=wn
http://www.wbgo.org/listennow/index.php
http://www.wonkette.com/
http://www.wbgo.org/listennow/wbgo.m3u


tabbed session starts at ~ 70 MB

- now either start switching between these windows

as you add windows, mem usage creeps up

one extra window == 86.5 meg

Kill window, same 86.5 meg

in a minute mem goes down to 86.1

click on a news story / go into a new page mem suddenly 91.5 meg

Let sit 1 minute

"arrow back" to main URL on tab, ==89.2 Meg

still one Firefox window

pop up another window on a news story ( 2 windows, one tabbed one not)
== 91.2 Meg mem used

click on another news story, third window == 97.5 meg

let sit 20  minutes ==  mem usage is 102 megabytes

URL http://www.wbgo.org/listennow/wbgo.m3u has stopped reacting or
producing sound (Music)

kill that window

screen suddenly turns grey, system monitor says firefox is using 103.2
megabytes

System Monitor says firefox is sleeping

Firefox does not respond to cursor except to minimize screens

System using only 354 meg of 1 Gig  and 25% cpu being used by system

"continue process" on system monitor  does not restore app.

App still grey and unresponsive


click on tabs

Message

"The window "FT.com / In depth - Panic grips credit markets - Mozilla
Firefox" is not responding.

Forcing this application to quit will cause you to lose any unsaved
changes."

Screen is still grey

This is a bug
