Public bug reported:

When I type 'firefox' into the awesome bar and hit enter, it takes me straight to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
When I type 'transmission' into the AB, it takes me straight to http://www.transmissionbt.com/
'nebraska department of revenue' likewise gives me http://www.revenue.ne.gov/
If I type something ambiguous enough, it takes me to google search results for what I typed.

Naturally this is what I want if I don't type something with a '.' in it, and it seldom gives me the wrong thing--
but I set my machine to use OpenDNS and this amazing functionality broke; what i'm wondering is how on earth the best feature in firefox 3 is dependent on what DNS service I'm using.

Right now I switched back to using my router for DNS which in turn gets its DNS from my ISP, Cox..
There's this 'search domains' field in my system network settings, but it's empty.

...so I've been telling my friends to use firefox 3 because of this
amazing feature, but they always say it doesn't work-- is this
productivity enhancing behavior actually the result of my ISP? If so,
why the heck isn't it in firefox, and if not, why does using OpenDNS
break it?

** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
