I now realize that it would ask me for my password repeatedly because
Password Manager was not functioning.  It was not functioning because I
had forgotten the correct password for Password Manager, and I always
entered an incorrect one.

Of course, its incorrect for Thunderbird to ask for the password
repeatedly.  But its no longer a problem for me because I have reset the
password for Password Manager, and I can remember this password.  This
makes Thunderbird work much better.
