I also see this issue frequently on Intrepid using Flash 10 beta (not RC
- as of right now, that hasn't hit the archives).

My speculation is that Flash will crash, causing a gray box to appear,
then all subsequent Flash uses fail, also resulting in a gray box.

Perhaps the Flash 10 bump will resolve this? See bug 257403
