[Bug 278880] [NEW] [intrepid] firefox and Xorg eat CPU

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Ever since upgrading to the intrepid alpha, occasionally firefox will
start taking up a lot of CPU, even on a completely idle single tab.
Actually, Xorg is taking up around 90% cpu, firefox the remaining 10%,
and when I completely close firefox, the Xorg usage drops immediately.

There doesn't seem to be a pattern to which pages this happens on. Just
now it happened when there was a single tab sitting open with the
Facebook requests page (which is now a little Javascript heavy, but none
of that should have been running).

When it happens, firefox remains completely responsive and the rest of
the computer just marginally slower, so it's hard to debug. Mostly just
wondering if other people are seeing this behavior. I'm willing to try a
few things if I get confirmation that others see this too.

I'm not assuming I'm hitting the same bug as the other 100% cpu bugs,
because (a) it's completely idle at the time, and (b) this definitely
had a discrete start time: upgrading to intrepid. So I guess it could
theoretically be an xorg bug too.

** Affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
