Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

With a GB locale one would expect the default search to go via
google.co.uk rather than google.com, which it does if you search in the
top right toolbar, however... the default homepage in firefox is
http://start.ubuntu.com/8.10/ for a GB locale which in turn searches
google.com rather than google.co.uk

Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex, 32 bit
firefox:
  Installed: 3.0.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 3.0.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 3.0.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu2 0
        500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

(The impact of this bug is that you have to manually modify the URL of the search after it has taken place which then allows the "pages from the UK" functionality for subsequent search modification)
Workaround is to change your homepage to google.co.uk instead of the default, however is should ship localized?

** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
