Thank you for the fast response Alexander. Unfortunately I've tried
these methods, as well as purging firefox, and neither was successful.

It seems to be a problem with my specific user, not with the flash
installation. I say this since when I create a fresh user it can use
flash with no problem. Is there something in my user configuration that
could be preventing flash?
