the second. this is surely a performance issue in places. you could try
our 3.1 preview builds from ~fta ppa. you should be able to use 3.1 in
parallel with firefox ... just that the profile will be forked on first
start (e.g. what you change in 3.1 will not happen in 3.0 and vv.)
