I have the same problem, however switching to gnash did not fix it.
Running firefox from the terminal gave me this (times 6):
(firefox:12314): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

I have an ATI Radeon HD3650 with 8.10 Catalyst drivers.
