Antonio,

after further testing, I realized that the problem was actually with the
sun.java6.plugin package.  I uninstalled it (though I left sun-java6-bin
and -jre untouched, for other apps need it) and downgraded to
sun.java5.plugin.  I have also uninstalled firefox-2 just to unclutter.
So far this has solved half my problems with Java (www.bb.com.br works
fine, but the java stock graphs I use at www.agorainvest.com.br often
don't).  Anyway, I'm going to keep investigating this issue and will
report any new information here.
