Hi,
Altough i switched this feature on with Gutsy (since it was the only way to clear the urlbar, as Ctrl-U "emas"-keybinding isn't useable anymore on Gnome), the behaviour changed in Firefox 3, which now _overwrite_ the buffer. Thus it would be a very severe regression if it's default activated.
Sadly, the only way left that i can think of to simply delete the urlbar on recent Firefox is to double-click on the favicon..
