[Bug 231801] [NEW] unable to open thunderbird from gnome or terminal safe mode

I installed thunderbird and lightening 0.7 from Synaptic.  At this point thunder bird opened fine.
I installed Google Calendar Add On and downloaded Lightening 0.8 thunderbird bird opened with an defunct screen as far as the calendar operations were concerned.
I opened thunderbird in safe mode and all was returned to normal with the add ons disabled.
I kept the adds ons disabled and changed thunderbird to my default preference instead of evolution.
I tried to open thunderbird at this point and it will not open from gnome panel or terminal.
I did a reinstall through synaptic and still no change.
I have not removed Lightening 0.7
So now my system has the adds on installed, the old lightening add on installed and thunderbird unable to open.
