It boots up in different ways on different occasions, often getting into some kind of an endless loop while trying to boot. There may be some issue with the video driver. Also once running, it seems to use an unusual amount of resources when idle--up to 50% of CPU for example.

Did you install via upgrading though Update Manager, or by downloading
the Live CD from www.ubuntu.com?
