Try

  sudo apt-get install --reinstall firefox-3.0

and
  sudo apt-get install --reinstall xulrunner-1.9
  sudo apt-get install --reinstall xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support

(the last line only when you had gnome-support initially)

 status confirmed
