Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

After starting thunderbird and sending mail for the first time I am
prompted by my SMTP server for a password (I do not save passwords in a
password manager). If I am away from the keyboard long enough that the
password exchange with the server times out, then I get a "Send Message
Error" dialog pop-up. When clicking on the OK button on this dialog box
thunderbird crashes about 50% of the time.

To reproduce:

Prerequisite: Your SMTP server prompts you for a password, and you do
not keep your password stored in a password manager, but enter it by
hand each time.

1. Start thunderbird.
2. Compose a message.
3. Click send.
4. When "Mail Server Password Required" window appears, allow for sufficient time before entering your password that the exchange with the SMTP server will time out. Then enter your password and press return.
5. A "Send Message Error" dialog will appear. Clicking 'OK' will cause thunderbird to crash 50% of the time with a segmentation fault.

Snippet from strace is attached as a gzipped text file.

** Affects: thunderbird (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
