I confirm similar (less critical) behaviour: under FF3 (3.0+nobinonly-
0ubuntu0.8.04.1), asking ff3 to check for addon updates does not
complete. I can close the addon window without a crush. Everytime the
same (5) addons are stuck in the checking for update state. The message
above the progress bar is "Finished checking for updates to.." and then
a different addon everytime.

Paul, can you tell us the list of addons you have installed?
