I'm having the same issue, happened after I auto-upgraded to 3.0, I
think (in Ubuntu), I believe that the download bar was automatically
added at some point along the way, possibly during my upgrade to Ubuntu
Hardy Heron, and I'll see if the "completed download crash" stops when I
deactivate the download bar.

It was an upgrade from a previous version of firefox, so there may have
been issues with the attempts to keep pre-existing extensions, as well.
