I can comfirm the bug. It has something to do with xulrunner. It
happened after some upgrade. I tried using the hardy-updates repo and
got some updates later, but they didn't fix the problem. I tried using
the PPA repo that features the RC2 but the result is null.

At some point in the Add-Ons window I got a messages saying that the
XulRunner plugin was incompatible. I tried purging everything related to
Firefox and Xulrunner and then reinstalling. No progess there. I guess I
missed something, after the package purge, even though I moved some
files manually. Also after a blank profile the second run spews a
segfault. So to run Firefox I have to deleted the .mozilla dir and then
start the browser again. But as I mentioned the second run will cause
segmentation fault again.

I can confirm that the problem doesn't affect Firefox 2 and Thunderbird
2. There are problems however with ver 3alpha of Thunderbird.

P.S. when I start firefox-3.0 from the terminal I get

*** Exception loading string bundle: Component returned failure code:
0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIStringBundle.GetStringFromName]
