Also before doing the following please disable all your extensions and see if you are able to reproduce. At this moment i have 6 of my gmail accounts using IMAP in Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 and i have no problems thats what makes me think its an extension/addon/theme, On the hew bug report please list all extensions/addons/themes that you use in Thunderbird or have used in the past week.Also you need to define "Thunderbird has been working fine until I downloaded the last update that required a reboot"
thunderbird doesn't require you to reboot system ever so it makes me think that its not thunderbird causing this issue.

If you can reporduce this at any time please right down or remember or
copy and paste the contents in /var/crash  this way when you crash it
again you know what was there before and now a new one is there and that
would be thee one you use to file bug report.
