I tried Firefox with a new profile, and the issue remains. (I also tried
Opera, which displays the font as expected.)

When setting:

Serif => DejaVu Serif
Sans-serif => DejaVu Sans

in Edit, Preferences, Content, Fonts & Colours, Advanced, Firefox
displays the font as expected.
