Hi Dave

That means there's a problem with the backend system that configures
packages on your system. Specifically, it's been stopped half-way
through doing something. What you'll need to do is to bring up a
terminal (GNOME terminal in GNOME, or Konsole in KDE), and issue the
command it gives you: "dpkg --configure -a" (without the quotation
marks). That should sort it out.

This might be a wishlist request--when the package manager says that,
maybe it should offer a button to click to do so, or even maybe just do
it by itself. Are you using synaptic as your package manager?
