  Partial borders of very long blocks only show the border along some of
  their length.
  
  In the attached file, the <pre> with a 'border-left' CSS styling only
- displays the left-hand border for 1,450 of the 2,000 lines in the <pre>.
- On the other lines, the border evidently still exists, but is drawn
- transparently.
