What version are you using to reproduce this problem? Can you please try
the Sunbird/lightning packages on my PPA and see if it helps.
My PPA is found at: https://edge.launchpad.net/~gnomefreak/+archive
You need to remove --purge the package you have now and you need to
return the rightful profile back in place. Profile being
~/.mozilla-thunderbird  if you no longer have the back up than please
rename the one you have now and start thunderbird so it makes a new one.
Please download the packages from my PPA as you may upgrade to a version
of something that is broken.
