The Firefox workaround works! Thanks a lot, now starts my Firefox ONLINE
with USB modem.

My /etc/network/interfaces file is:


auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth1000 inet dhcp

# And this 3 lines are followed by lines with "#" at the beginning -- I
think, these are only comments.
