Thank you for taking the time to report the problem you experienced and for helping to improve Ubuntu. Could you please provide more details as to what happens when you run Firefox? Also, you mentioned the latest kernel, which leads me to think that you recently changed your kernel. The current kernel for Hardy is 2.6.24-19-generic. You reported that you are running 2.6.22-14-generic (sounds like you may have upgraded from a previous version of Ubuntu). If there is a problem with your kernel, you could most likely remedy it by opening a terminal and running this command:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install linux-image-generic
Then reboot and make sure to choose the latest kernel from your boot menu (it should be the default).
