Ok -- now I'm confused.  This problem seems to have gone 
away, but I uninstalled Firefox 3.0 using synaptic and 
installed Firefox2 but when I start Firefox and check the 
version using help->about it says it's using 
Gecko/2008061015 Firefox/3.0.
