[Bug 185474] Google mail 'compose' wont open

Clicking on any email link - nothing happens
In iGoogle clicking on 'compose email' new tab opens, claims its loading ... then says Done with empty page.
Seems the same problem?

Used to work fine. 
I did uninstall Evolution cos I was fed up with it opening automatically but it worked fine after that...not sure though what change caused this other than Ubuntu updates.

I have this in about:config
network.protocol-handler.external.mailto true

Tried this from another string:
Confirm gconf-editor (if you use gnome) that /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mailto is configured rightly (e.g. the command points to some mail client -- by default it should be "evolution %s" and the enabled field is checked)

but 'search' for the file gconf-editor came up with lots of them in
different places!! Didn't know what to do.
