oupps, this is a bug reported under firefox - I just wanted to say that
it affected OO as well, not file the reoprt again. I can't see how to
delete it

** Summary changed:

- browser/mail crash on mouse click after update to 8.10
+ browser/mail crash on mouse click after update to 8.10 - glibc/memory problem ?

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: firefox-3.0
+ Binary package hint: firefox-3.0, glibc

After upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10 (AMD 64-bit), several applications crash when trying to browse to access a file, e.g. to upload an e-mail attachment in thunderbird 2.0.0.18 or to upload a file using either firefox 3.0.4 or galeon 2.0.6.
the crash occurs when clicking on the browse window. Related: emacs-snapshot 23.0.60.1 hangs up in 'dired' when trying to open a file from the toolbar (while it works o.k. opening the file using ctrl-F).
+
+ Update
+ Similar problems in other applications
+ Starting the offending applications from the command line, a common pattern emerges: there is
+ an error message about glibc detecting memory corruption, followed by a long list of related info (which unfortunately doesn't mean anything to me). For example, trying to save a file in openoffice
+ generated:
+
+ *** glibc detected *** /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin:
+ malloc(): memory corruption (fast): 0x00002aaab41207e0 ***
+
+ what can I do to fix this - re-installation of all the packages with
+ problems as well as *libc* and kernel/header for 2.6.27-9-generic did
+ not change anything

** Also affects: openoffice
   Importance: Undecided
       Status: New
