I just upgraded to 8.10 and the symptom was still reproducible.
However, in my case, the problem was (likely) due to an old version of
libsqlite3.so.0 that was hanging around in /usr/local/lib (which also
caused a problem with Firefox when I upgraded).  Deleting the old
version of libsqlite3.so.0 seemed to fix both problems for me.
